Princeton University Baseball Park

Princeton, New Jersey

Bringing a ballpark to life at an Ivy League institution demands more than technical competence — it requires fluency in craft, context, and collaboration. Andrés Cortés served as design architect for the vertical elements of Princeton University's Baseball Park, working alongside nationally renowned ballpark firm Pendulum and Princeton-based MS+A Architects to deliver a facility worthy of its campus.

Andrés was responsible for the stadium's enclosed spaces — including the Restrooms, Offices, and Press Box — where architectural intention had to meet rigorous institutional standards. Princeton's historic campus guidelines shaped every material decision, demanding a bespoke approach that balanced heritage with performance. Meeting those requirements while also hitting energy efficiency targets required close coordination across architecture, materials, and building systems.

Structural expression drives the design's character. A large, sloped overhanging roof anchors the composition, sheltering two generous outdoor decks below.

A custom-fabricated awning in Princeton Orange adds a singular flourish — specific, confident, and unmistakably tied to place.

The neighboring softball stadium, sharing the vertical elements, was folded into the design thinking from the outset, ensuring both facilities feel considered as a whole.

The result is a project that earns its place on a storied campus — precise in its execution, deliberate in its details, and built to serve generations of athletes and fans.
